Hurricane Irene Updates - DRIVING RESTRICTIONS IMPOSED - Bridges closing - Delaware HelpLine

Delaware Governor Jack Markell has announced Level 2 Driving Restrictions for all three Delaware counties. Beginning at 6PM in Sussex, 8PM in Kent County, and 10PM in New Castle, all non-emergency travel is restricted. Motorists found on State roads without an approved waiver to the Restrictions are subject to fines and penalties. Additionally, it has been announced that the Indian River Inlet Bridge is closing at 4PM. Three out of the four bridges over the C & D canal will be closed at 10PM to all traffic except emergency vehicles. Only the Summit Bridge will remain open unless winds reach sustained speeds of 45 MPH. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland has also closed. Lastly, the Delaware HelpLine has been opened for members of the public to call for information regarding Hurricane Irene related issues. The HelpLine has information on shelters, evacuation areas, the State of Emergency, and other information relevant to the storm. You may reach the HelpLine at 800-464-4357.
