Volunteers Staff the Station for Hurricane Irene - Magnolia VFC
Saturday, August 27, 2011
In anticipation of the possible damage that the passing of Hurricane Irene could bring to the Magnolia fire district and the districts of our neighboring companies, the Magnolia VFC kept an engine and ambulance crew in station overnight from 8/27 to 8/28. Crews took in a number of electrical hazard calls overnight, as well as an ambulance run, a tanker company assist to Felton and a residential gas leak. Also in station were elements of the Delaware National Guard and Kent County Paramedics. Additionally, due to the risk of high water and flooding in the town, Bowers Fire Company placed Quint 40 in our station, as well as Ambulance 40, to ensure that they would not be damaged. Ambulance 40 was staffed during the night by Station 40 personnel, who had a quite night. In addition to running storm related calls, the volunteers made an animal rescue, removing a small kitten from the engine compartment of a volunteer’s personal vehicle. We believe the kitten was trying to find shelter during the storm and inadvertently went for a ride when the member rode home and back. The kitten was safely removed, fed and has now found a home with the family of a volunteer. The volunteers would like to thank the Ladies Auxiliary for the delicious hot meals they provided for the crews.
