Impending Weather Event - Prepare now for Hurricane Sandy
Sunday, October 28, 2012
The time to prepare yourself, your family, and your home for the approaching stormy weather has nearly passed. The Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company would like to remind our community members of a few last minute preparation items: - Expect that crawlspaces and basements might flood. Most importantly, secure any electrical items (with the exception of your sump pump) that may come into contact with water. - Prepare for extended power outages. Be sure to have on hand flashlights, batteries, and enough food and water to last for three days. - Ensure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors have fresh batteries. - Charge your cell phones now. Have car chargers available and ready if needed. - Visit the Delaware Emergency Management Agency’s website at http://dema.delaware.gov for more storm preparation tips, updated weather conditions, and the latest evacuation and shelter information. Our volunteers will be manning the station in shifts throughout the storm to provide immediate response to needs in our community. However, we do not expect to have resources available for basement floodings and pumping during the height of the storm. Please be safe, stay indoors, and immediately call 911 should you have any kind of emergency – storm-related or other. We will be ready and there if needed. - The Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company
